User generated filtering:

User generated filtering: Internet users (most of us, the audience) are able to express a preference about the content uploaded to the Internet. This is then prioritised according to the votes or views a particular item on the Internet receives. Also linked to democratisation of media.

For example; websites such as dig.com allow Internet users the opportunity to vote for a video on YouTube or an article or posting of some sort. With user-generated filtering, users get together and give a video the thumbs up if they like it or the chance to bury it if they don’t like it by giving it the thumbs down. If they “digg it” (thumbs up) it goes to the top of the viewing list, (this is the filtering process) and as a result several thousands more people see it. Also ‘tagging’ is a form of book marking and by doing this information is shared with other Internet users.
